BYU Athletic Trainer’s Workbox
This custom indoor athletic trainer’s trunk was built for the Brigham Young University football team. The trunk is designed to be a mobile workstation for the team’s athletic trainers stored indoors during games.
The trunk’s front two doors feature 270-degree hinge that allowing them to fold flat against the side of the trunk during use. The doors are held in place by heavy-duty encased magnets.
The interior of the trunk features an open, carpet-lined compartment at the top of the case and 8 drawers. The top four drawers feature removable ¼” marine grade plastic divider network that creates 3 compartments in each drawer. The middle three and deeper bottom drawers also utilize a removable ¼” marine grade plastic divider network that creates 12 compartments in each drawer. Each drawer is built from ½” Baltic Birch plywood, mounted on HD Accuride glides, and finished with black textured coating. The drawers are built into a ½ plywood shell that allows them to operate independently from the trunk exterior. This unique design allows the drawer unit to be modular for future expansion or re-design in addition to providing isolation during transport.
The trunk exterior is built from 1/2” plywood laminated with charcoal ABS plastic. The trunk featured deep recessed hardware and rides on 6” field casters. The case exterior also features a custom silkscreen of the BYU logo. Thanks to BYU for a great project!
