NY Jets Custom Equipment Room Workbox
This case was designed for the New York Jets equipment management staff to be a mobile equipment room workstation that holds a variety of accessories, such as tape and various tools. The trunk lid features a 8x3 grid of pegboard mounted SmartJars that provide 24 individual storage compartments for small parts. The lid also features 8 custom storage compartments constructed from ½” marine grade plastic. Each compartment features a hinged door made from 3/8" clear Lexan locks with a Southco slam latch. The lid also contains a custom insert for one cordless drill and one rivet gun. The lid is supported by two gas shock supports, one locking to prevent unintentional lid closures.
The main work surface is built from ½” white marine grade plastic for a high contrast between the surface and any parts being worked on. Below the work surface are 6 drawers provided for storage. The drawers are built into a ½” plywood inner shell. This shell is isolated from the trunk exterior and allows the drawers to be protected from any impacts or stress to the outer shell. Each drawer is built from ½” Baltic Birch plywood, mounted on HD Accuride glides, and is finished with black textured coating. All the drawers are lined with black carpet and feature dividers constructed of ½” marine grade plastic.
The front 2 doors feature 270-degree hinge that allow them to fold flat against the side of the trunk during use. The trunk’s exterior is built from 1/2” plywood laminated with forest green ABS. The trunk uses deep recessed latches and hardware and rides on 6” field casters.
