Custom Drum Tech Workstation w/Solid Walnut Drawer Faces

This custom LM Cases Drum Tech Touring Workbox was designed as a complete mobile workstation for drum maintenance, repair, organization and touring production support. The case combines a large work surface, dedicated soldering and parts-storage areas, integrated power, monitor storage and configurable mounting provisions into a single road-ready package.

Unlike a conventional workbox with removable lids, the front doors are mounted using 270-degree fold-flat double-knuckle hinges, allowing them to remain captive to the case while folding completely against the sides during use. The top lid is also captive and supported by gas springs, creating a workbox that can be opened and put into service without finding a place to store loose lids.

The main work surface is divided into two sections. One section uses 3/8" clear Lexan, while the second features a removable 1/2" cross-linked foam work surface. The combination provides different surfaces for drum service and general tech work while allowing components to be positioned or rotated directly on the workbox.

A full-width doghouse runs across the rear of the workstation and provides space for power distribution, customer equipment and mounting hardware. The doghouse incorporates customer-specified power modules along with additional LM Tour Systems power distribution. Power throughout the workstation is interconnected using Neutrik powerCON TRUE1 components, allowing the internal infrastructure to support both 120V and 240V applications when used with the appropriate source equipment.

The top of the doghouse incorporates an integrated Triad-Orbit IO-WSP mounting location for the customer's removable monitor and camera mounting system. Additional mounting locations are provided within the doghouse for customer-installed monitors, speakers and related production equipment.

Storage is handled by a series of custom drawers mounted on heavy-duty locking slides. The locking mechanism allows the drawers and pull-out work surfaces to remain positively secured while the workstation is being used or repositioned, including on uneven surfaces.

Two slide-out auxiliary work surfaces are located immediately below the main work surface. Built from 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood and finished with LM's black texture coating, these shelves provide additional temporary workspace for tools, parts, soldering equipment or other items without consuming the primary work area.

A dedicated soldering drawer is incorporated into the workstation and features a hinged upper work surface using position-control friction hinges. Much like a laptop display, the hinges allow the surface to remain in the position selected by the user. A magnetic tool-holding surface is incorporated into the work area, while an internal Hubbell four-outlet power bank provides convenient power for a soldering iron and other service tools.

An additional upper drawer uses the same position-control work surface and incorporates LM Cases Tech Dividers. These removable marine-grade plastic dividers allow the compartment layout to be changed as tools, hardware and spare parts change from tour to tour. Additional divided and open drawers provide storage for larger tools and equipment.

One side of the workbox contains a dedicated custom storage compartment for the customer's monitors while in transit. Integrated vertical compartments alongside the monitor storage provide quick-access storage for multiple sets of drumsticks, keeping frequently used tools within reach while working on a drum.

Rear service access provides entry to the back of the drawer and power areas without disassembling the workstation. This makes it possible to access internal wiring, retrieve an item that has fallen behind a drawer, or service components installed inside the workbox.

At approximately 45.7" wide × 24.4" deep × 44.2" high, this workbox provides a substantial working and storage area while remaining a self-contained touring package.
