Shot Put Transport Case

This custom shot put transport case built by LM Cases is designed to provide a compact, durable, and configurable way to transport multiple competition shot puts for collegiate and professional track & field programs.

Originally developed for the University of Washington, the case is built around a wheeled Pelican 1560 protective case and features a custom removable foam interior designed specifically for shot put equipment. The original men’s configuration holds up to four shot puts, each supported in its own dedicated foam cavity. 

The men’s insert was designed around shot puts approximately 5.6" in diameter, with each implement recessed roughly 5.5" into the foam. The individual cutouts keep the shot puts separated from one another and help control movement during transport. 

A key feature of this design is the modular two-piece foam system. Each side of the foam interior is removable, allowing the case to be reconfigured with different inserts for men’s or women’s shot puts. Because both insert types are designed around the same case size and split at the midpoint, teams can configure the case for all men’s implements, all women’s implements, or a mixed half-men’s/half-women’s setup depending on the needs of a particular meet. 

The foam package uses multiple layers of dense PE foam to create a stable structure around the heavy implements. This layered construction helps support the weight of the shot puts while maintaining the removable, interchangeable insert concept. 

The Pelican 1560 was selected to keep the overall package as compact as possible while still providing the durability needed for frequent team travel. Integrated wheels make the case easier to move through airports, stadiums, athletic facilities, and competition venues—an especially important feature when transporting multiple 16 lb. men’s shot puts.

Custom silkscreen graphics can also be added to the lid for school branding, team identification, or equipment labeling.
