Socapex Break Out & Switch Panel Set
This custom LM Tour Systems Socapex Breakout & Switch Panel Set was designed as a remote switched-power solution for a theatrical stage manager workstation. The system allows six duplex AC outlets to be individually turned on and off from a separate control position, making it ideal for controlling practical lighting, lamps, accessories and other stage equipment from offstage.
The system consists of two separate panels: a six-switch control panel and a six-outlet breakout panel. Power enters the control panel through a single AC power connection and is distributed to six individually operated switches. Those switched outputs are then carried between the two panels through a standard 19-pin Socapex connection.
At the outlet panel, the six switched feeds are broken out to six individual duplex receptacles. This allows a stage manager or operator to control each outlet separately from the workstation while the actual power connections can be located elsewhere in the rack, backstage or closer to the equipment being powered.
One of the biggest advantages of using Socapex between the two panels is flexibility. While the original system was designed with the panels installed in different sections of the same workstation, the outlet panel can be remotely located simply by using a longer standard Socapex extension cable. This allows the control position and powered equipment to be separated by whatever distance is required for the application.
The outlet panel can also function independently as a standard six-circuit Socapex breakout when connected to an appropriate Socapex power distribution system. Originally developed for theatrical stage management, this system is a good example of the custom integration work LM Cases and LM Tour Systems can provide when an off-the-shelf product does not fit the application.
