Installed FOH Rack w/Pocket Doors For Yamaha DM7 Compact

This custom LM Cases Yamaha DM7 Compact installed workstation was designed as a permanent or semi-permanent mixing position for integration applications where appearance, equipment protection, serviceability, and long-term durability are all important. Rather than building the console into a conventional road case, the workstation creates a finished furniture-style enclosure around the DM7 Compact while incorporating a full rack below for supporting audio, network, and processing equipment.

The entire workstation is constructed from 3/4" Baltic birch plywood with a black texture-coated exterior, including black hardware wherever practical. This approach gives the workstation a low-profile appearance that blends into theaters, houses of worship, corporate AV environments, and other installed systems. The textured finish is also practical for long-term use because minor wear can be touched up more easily than many coated aluminum finishes.

The upper work surface is shaped specifically around the Yamaha DM7 Compact, following the profile of the console and its display. Machined locating pockets capture the console feet to help position and retain the mixer in the workstation without relying on a generic flat shelf. The raised side sections are built from laminated Baltic birch and include ventilation cutouts to promote airflow around the console.

Directly below the console is a 16RU equipment rack, providing substantial space for amplifiers, DSP, network equipment, interfaces, power distribution, or other system electronics. The rack rails are recessed to help protect installed equipment and maintain a clean finished appearance.

Access to the rack is designed around an installed-system workflow. The rear features a removable panel for servicing the equipment inside, while the front incorporates a pocket-style access door that can be opened when needed and stored neatly within the workstation when the rack is in use. The CAD design includes dedicated channels and hardware details for the removable door system.

For day-to-day system connections, the workstation is equipped with an LM Tour Systems four D-punch recessed inlet box, allowing frequently used network, Dante, power, or other connections to be brought to an accessible exterior location. In this build, a modular LM Tour Systems adapter plate allows the recessed power inlet to be changed to another D-series connector format in the future, helping the system adapt as connectivity requirements change.

The workstation rides on 4" x 2" Colson Encore casters with brakes, making it possible to reposition the console when necessary while still functioning primarily as an installed mixing position. The completed workstation measures approximately 24.9" wide, 49.1" high, and 36.1" deep and has an estimated weight of approximately 120 lb.

Designed for AVI Systems, this Yamaha DM7 Compact workstation is a good example of how LM Cases can combine custom console furniture, rack integration, cable management, ventilation, and service access into a single purpose-built solution for professional installed audio systems.
