Video FlyPack Case w/Camera Control & Custom LED Light Panels
This case was built for Upstage Video as a portable video flypack work station for camera control. The top lid holds 2 Black Magic 4k monitors. The lid is supported by gas springs that assist in the opening and closing. The springs keep the lid open during use.
Dual 8U shock mounted racks are provided below the top lid for preview monitors and additional outboard gear. The racks features rear rail with 9” between the front & rear rails. The slide out work surface is built from ¾” Baltic Birch, and finished with black texture coating. The surface features multi-point latches that allow the surface to be extended, and locked into place in 1” increments. This allows users to sit or stand for operation. The worksurface also features a central compartment with pre-drilled mounting holes for 6 Sony RCP1500 camera control units. 6 custom cut, individual filler plates are provided allowing users to custom configure the case per show and use the work surface if only some, or no camera controllers are needed. 2 individual 1U rack sections are provided for panels, com, or any other show controller. 2 female XLR jacks are provided for 12v task lights. Below the work surface, are 2 HD storage drawers. These drawers are built from ½” Baltic Birch, and are mounted on HD Accuride glides.
The most striking feature of the flypack are the custom LED light panels with the Upstage Video logo. The LED light assemblies were built by the LM Cases Custom Integration Department. The LED modules are powered by a custom built supply mounted in a 1RU enclosure. Color, signal, and power are sent to each module via custom built 4 pin XLR cables. Each cable is labeled with heat shrink at both ends to ensure proper connection should the end user need to disconnect a module for service. Additional 4 pin XLR cables were provided as extensions in case the power supply needed to be moved during the rack integration. Each light is designed to operate in a modular fashion allowing one power supply to be used with several light assemblies. The power supply features a foam compartment for remote control storage and a master power switch. The light assemblies are milled out of 1” thick clear Lexan. The LED lights are fitted into a routed track in the Lexan allowing the logo to be evenly lit at all angles. A male 4 pin XLR jack is mounted in the back of each module to provide signal and power via one connector. The Upstage logo was routed in the Lexan using a ball mill to provide a smoked look ensuring maximum contrast to the clear Lexan.
The case exterior is built out of ½” plywood finished with Hexagrip laminate. The case exterior features 4 integrated top corner handles, 8 deep recessed handles and 6” casters.
